‘Apotha-Printing’, was a workshop I planned for embroidery artisans at Kala Raksha. I brought with me to Kutch, lasercut printing blocks that had been made from the remedies housed in the Manchester Museum. I wanted to open dialogue with the women about the remedies they use for their family’s health and happiness. The ladies are said to have ‘an itch to embroider’ and so the printing tools were quite unusual objects to introduce to them. The women printed and drew and explained about their practice of care. Then we began to make Rabari embroideries!
